It’s about goddamn time! Thanks to my favorite DVD site for bringing it to my attention, and a giant HELLS YEAH for the official word. Those bastards at Lucasfilm are slightly less bastard-y as of today. It’s official, the original Star Wars trilogy will be released on September 12 (in “limited release” a la Disney vault) on DVD in their original theatrical format. No stupid added special effects, no digital Jabba, no Hayden Whineyson ghost with the Ewoks, just Star Wars like it was originally presented.
In response to overwhelming demand, Lucasfilm Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will release attractively priced individual two-disc releases of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Each release includes the 2004 digitally remastered version of the movie, as well as the original theatrical edition of the film. That means you’ll be able to enjoy Star Wars as it first appeared in 1977, Empire in 1980, and Jedi in 1983.
See the title crawl to Star Wars before it was known as Episode IV; see the pioneering, if dated, motion control model work on the attack on the Death Star; groove to Lapti Nek or the Ewok Celebration song like you did when you were a kid; and yes, see Han Solo shoot first.
Oh yes. Oh yes.

Okay, I hit my head pretty hard today, so I’m going to chalk this one up to a case of the mind parasites, gnawing on my axons and dendrites after having been released from their fragile cocoons by the blow. It’s the only way this makes any sense.

Stop falling down all the time. And after your concussion goes away, you’ll want to pre-order these DVDs as soon as humanly possible.

And no, I don’t know what “give buy” means. Those two words seem to be contradicting each other. Presumably I meant to say “give in and buy…” or some such, but at this point there’s really no knowing.

My mind parasites remind me that it’s a good thing I never got around to buying one of those bootleg Star Wars DVD box sets that were ripped from the pre-SE Laserdiscs. The alternate plan (which also never came to fruition) was to just buy a Laserdisc player and the original trilogy on large, shiny discs. Hopefully this new set will be cheaper than that. It’ll certainly take up less space.
