I had an excellent game of Scrabble last night. I scored a bingo (used all seven tiles) on a triple word score. :D Yes, it’s über-geeky, but I was stoaked. I think my game play is improving. I don’t have time to study word lists, but I think my strategy is better. If you like Scrabble, check out Word Freak: Heartbreak, Triumph, Genius, and Obsession in the World of Competitive Scrabble Players by Stefan Fatsis. Again, I show my inner geek.
Also, while listening to City Arts & Lectures on NPR, I got to hear a poet by the name of Billy Collins. Gah, so funny. :D He was appointed Poet Laureate in 2001, and created the website Poetry 180, which is a poem for every day of the school year. A lovely idea, making poetry more accessible to students.
In any case, his poems are most excellent. The one I enjoyed the most does not appear to be online (and I can’t remember the exact title). However, two others I quite enjoyed are online to read: The Lanyard and Litany (a fantastic little mockery of the typical love-struck poem). Go and read.
