I had an excellent game of Scrabble last night. I scored a bingo (used all seven tiles) on a triple word score. :D Yes, it’s über-geeky, but I was stoaked. I think my game play is improving. I don’t have time to study word lists, but I think my strategy is better. If you like Scrabble, check out Word Freak: Heartbreak, Triumph, Genius, and Obsession in the World of Competitive Scrabble Players by Stefan Fatsis. Again, I show my inner geek.
Also, while listening to City Arts & Lectures on NPR, I got to hear a poet by the name of Billy Collins. Gah, so funny. :D He was appointed Poet Laureate in 2001, and created the website Poetry 180, which is a poem for every day of the school year. A lovely idea, making poetry more accessible to students.
In any case, his poems are most excellent. The one I enjoyed the most does not appear to be online (and I can’t remember the exact title). However, two others I quite enjoyed are online to read: The Lanyard and Litany (a fantastic little mockery of the typical love-struck poem). Go and read.
I worked the back-breaker shift today. 5pm to 1am…we’re doing a floor move, where we prep for the fall/winter season by rearranging departments. And then I head back tomorrow, to work at 9am. This is an improvement over the original shift I was supposed to work, which started at 7am. /me dies
Despite this, I managed to talk on the phone to no less than five people in the first hour I was at work. Oh I’m a busy little bee. Two of those calls were actually work related! And then I got paid to talk to Audrey for about 30 minutes, which is excellent. Even more excellent as the last time I heard Audrey’s voice was probably close to four years ago. Whee! (Yes, it’s true, all the old friends are crawling out of the woodwork.) She’s still fabulous. I must head out to Vermont soon. She’s a-gonna be a doctor!
Yesterday, Bryan and I *finally* got our DVD storage rack from IKEA. (Click to see a pic…the one on the left.) IKEA has been holding out on us…we’ve been trying to buy this rack for six months now. This time, we tricked IKEA. We didn’t go to buy that; we’ve long since given up on it. Instead, we went for table legs, which were out of stock. Oh! But the DVD rack was there! Clearly we outsmarted IKEA! HA!
Microsoft Warns of Critial Flaw
No really. Images. That’s right. Pornographic pictures can now attack your computer. I think their Cycle of Crap has nearly come full circle.
Well, Angel Season 4 is out on DVD. So I surfed over to Amazon to see when the final season of Buffy is going to be available.
The answer? Apparently the twelfth of never.
Bryan and I had a fantastic time in Capitola. We didn’t do too much, really. Ate a lot of good food, went for a walk at Wilder ranch, and lazed around on the beach. And then this morning I woke up and was incapacitated. I can’t turn my head, or look up or down very well. Argh. I made it through about two hours of work today, then left, got acupunture, and have been sitting here, slightly less pained, for several hours since.
I actually got four days in a row off. Clearly I’ve used my scheduling miracle for the year, and will expect to work on both the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. ;) Bryan and I are spending the next two and a half days in Capitola, hopefully getting good weather and relaxing for a bit.
So I meme and don’t feel guilty. (Stolen from Robbie who stole from someone else.)

[And now, a "new beginning" to what Sarah has deemed The Most Boring Blog Ever. Sayeth she who has what amounts to a static image.]
Now normally when I bitch about my knees, it’s because they hurt. On the inside. Damn joints and lack of cartilage and such. But in this case, I’ve sunburned my knees. Ow. I went out for Manager’s Mental Health Day yesterday. We had a great time, less the sunburn. We kayaked on open water from Aptos to Capitola and back. Thanks a heap to Dan from Current Adventures for supplying us with boats and paddles.
I, on the other hand, didn’t supply my own sunscreen on my knees. Everywhere else is merely tinged pink. However, my knees are ON FIRE. Oy.
After kayaking and lunch at the *only* mediocre taco joint in Santa Cruz, we went for a glorious twelve-ish mile mountain bike ride at Wilder Ranch. Oh the views! It was also, I might add, one of the most glorious days I’ve had out there in ages. Perfect sky, about 72F, and a slight breeze. :D
I may just have mountain bike fever.
