worker bees

I love my job. I do. It’s just somewhat overwhelming right now. Way too much to do, and not nearly enough time to do it. Probably it all comes from the fact that I’m getting the scut work (writing the schedule) while at the same time trying to finish my management training course work. It’s going well, but I am feeling the pressure of 10 remaining days to finish a whole crap load of work, plus needing to post two schedules.

All this, and I missed Outdoor Academy this year. I took today as my day off instead, and will work tomorrow. Another four interviews, it seems. We’ll grab one great new hire out of this last round of hiring, but it’s a little frustrating that we’re going to basically do 14 interviews to hire three people. I was hoping we’d be able to bring on Hedyeh after her fab interview, but another job came through for her. Super stoaked for her on that, but it puts me in a hiring hole.

However, all in all, I’m thankful for a lot of things these days. I can’t really complain…much.

catch up

Coffee and a day off. Nothing like that to compell one to update her blog.

Roy was in a bit of an accident. Bryan and I were down in Monterey while I worked at the Sea Otter Classic cycling event. He went to $tarbuck$ while I was working. While he was sitting in the car, in a parking space, some lady in a white truck backed out of her adjacent slot and banged up Roy. Biyotch. Bryan was tense, but luckily, she was insured. So my car is in the body shop, while I drive a giant Mitsubishi Gallant. Bleh. It drives just like my rental Chevy Malibu from when I was in Seattle. Double bleh. Come back to me Roy!

Last Tuesday was a lovely holiday. I went to Hedyeh’s house for food, folks, and fancy fun. She watched the video I loaned her of us performing in junior high. Apparently she’s just as traumatized as I was. LOL

Tonight is our par-tay for being Store of the Year. That’s right. We rock. :D We’re going to hang out at City Beach and eat and have fun. Whee!

This one is lusting after me.

Oh Angel. “Origin” showed again why Joss creates some of the best television ever. Amen. [review]

How exactly does a show this good get cancelled, while I continue to see commercials for “reality” tv, each one worse than the next? Look, I realize that tv is called the “boob tube,” and is generally regarded as the origin of sloth, but occasionally it spits out good stuff. Fantastic, even.

Television makes so much at its worst that it can’t afford to do its best.

What does it say that two of my greatest friendships were started based on a conversation about our mutual favorite shows? I met Jess via our love for The X-Files, and the first real conversation I had with Bryan involved our favorite character from the Buffyverse who never appeared in the opening credits. (Faith, for those keeping score at home.) Clearly the relationships have progressed, but that first discovery of a common tv show? Priceless.

Is it strange that I don’t at all consider myself a sci-fi fan, or even someone who is generally interested by the genre, yet the shows I’ve most loved would probably be classified as sci-fi? I’d like to take the broader view, and say that I have a thing for genre television. (I “feh” on the idea of “cult tv.”) Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, then Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Angel.

I have things to say on the topic. I’m sure a rant will come together in the next week or so.

If you comment, list three past favorite shows (not necessarily gone-before-their-time shows). I’m just curious.

summer style

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Color scheme and fonts have changed a bit. There’s an entirely new design in the works. I’ve been feeling the vibe as of yet, and have found a “style” that I dig, and think I can actually swing via CSS. Yay! Don’t hold your breath, but I am looking into making some time in my life for CSS again. Intarweb gods have mercy.

fixings

[Original and more witty post was killed by errant mouse click. Feck.]

I’ve fixed a few font/appearance issues for you readers out there. All six of you. ;) Use of <blockquote> no longer b0rks the text that follows it. It is also *smaller* than the rest of the text, while everything else has jumped in size. I’m just as blind (if not more so) than everyone else. Sorry the fix has taken so long. (The fix itself took all of 1 minute.)

In other craptastic news:
FOX has cancelled Wonderfalls. Because god forbid they let a show try and find its feet. This is two death strikes by FOX in two years. Firefly was the first to go, after FOX refused to air Joss’ brilliant pilot, things only went downhill. But at least Firefly got a handfull of episodes out before they were axed. Wonderfalls aired FOUR episodes before it was cancelled. FOUR. What, were the ratings so bad? Nooooooo.

WONDERFALLS had a solid sampling in its first 2 weeks, averaging 4 million viewers.  The series delivers its best performance among teens on Friday night, ranking #1 in its time period. WONDERFALLS is also popular with young men, ranking #2 in its time period among Men 18-34.

Feh.

I’d also complain about all the crap that George Lucas is doing to the soon-to-be-out-on-DVD-finally-you-bastard release of Episodes 4-6, but I don’t have my new keyboard yet, and I don’t have several days to kill. HAN SHOT FIRST!

I bought pants and several shirts. Because you care. I also love my new Chaco sandals. (Mine is specifically this one.)

ETA: Me kan speel gud.
