whoops

See what happens when I don’t pay attention to the coding that I already know?

/me punches herself in the head

I break my own blog with the < > characters because I’m not thinking about it. I should sleep more and “code” less during the work week. ;)

But lovely Raena has offered a fix for my fux0red table, though she mocks my 15.1″ screen. Because she’s jealous. ;) You rock, woman.

Instead of coding tonight, I will organize my music collection. Seems nice and safe, except that I’m managing it remotely. The Cube (that’s MrBitch to you) is sitting pretty next to the tv, headless and serving like it should.

still b0rked

Apologies for the lack of “real” updates on my days off. I did try and mess with the header, so that it wasn’t in a table and was in a div tag, but that wasn’t working (in the 5 minutes I set aside to play with it). You’ll notice that the middle column doesn’t sit evenly with the left and right, which is a problem I fixed, and then promptly broke. ;) No idea what happened there.

Alex keeps kicking me to get a book about CSS, which I’ll probably do at some point. The point where he actually drives down to my house to beat me. ;)

dead tired

I just came off a seven day stint, working my butt off on our Labor Day sale. I was laboring while others were shopping. Which isn’t to say I got totally screwed, since I did get some rad deals on t-shirts, and am getting paid for said work. I dig the job. I really do. It’s shocking.

Yesterday, I stopped by The Mountain to visit the old work friends. It looks like a ghost town in there, and I’m not sorry to be gone. I enjoy being busy and happy in my job. But I did get to have a nice coffee and sit-down with Lu and chat about how things were going. Oh, and get lots of gossip. ;) It was good to see Lu and Ron, and I’ll hopefully catch up with Sarah and Jeff some time soon.

New tweaking will be happening tomorrow, since Brad dropped some CSS knowledge on me, and I can possibly dump the table up top. w00t! Hopefully I won’t break too much stuff.

Oh, and we’re off to the grand opening of IKEA in Palo Alto tomorrow. It’s doubtful we’ll make it in time to get a free chair, but we still might get some cool stuff.

My Fair and Balanced Ass

Been following the idiotic lawsuit over the phrase “fair and balanced?” Apparently FOX News forgets who they are.

From The Miami Herald:

The news channel described Franken, an author and liberal commentator, as “neither a journalist nor a television news personality. He is not a well-respected voice in American politics; rather, he appears to be shrill and unstable. His views lack any serious depth or insight.”

Wow. Because FOXNews.com is a website with lots of depth. In that you can actually sign up to be a “fan.” Do they have fantasy newscasting leagues? They have a freaking fan club for a news station. You know, Pat Benatar has a fan club too, but I’m not rushing to change the channel to see what she has to say about the California recall election.

Red, White, and Idiotic

I find it hard to believe that there are intelligent, well-educated people in the United States who believe in telling other people (in reference to the US of A and our flag) that “these colors don’t run.” I find it even harder to believe that that same person would say it to the BBC World News.

I listen to NPR during my 30 minute commute to and from work. (I especially enjoy it now, with the new show, Day to Day, on for my entire drive when I work starting at 1 pm.) Coming home tonight was the “evening” edition of BBC World News. A professor (from Washington D.C., but that’s all I caught) was being interviewed about the impact of today’s explosion at the UN in Baghdad in regard to the number of American troops already stationed in Iraq. He said that he didn’t believe that the US would send more troops in, based on the fact that though there might be a perception that lax US security forces allowed the bombing to take place, “these colors don’t run.”

What? WHAT?

Buying into the ideal of blind patriotism is one thing, but then expressing your blind patriotism as the feeling of an entire nation? I’m embarassed. I want to email my friends in the UK and tell them that most people here don’t actually say that phrase, nor do they even think it. Personally, I believe that every person who has that shirt or bumper sticker should suffer hemorrhoids until they rid themselves of the product.

There’s a reason I don’t call myself an artist. I write, I play music, and I do any number of “artistic” things, but I can tell you right now, I *don’t* design web pages. So this site will stay in its moderate fugliness until I can take some time to really think about it. Seven days in a row of work aren’t going to be conducive to said labors.

I feel like I’m going to start dreaming in poorly coded CSS now.

Welcome to jinkies.org

w00t! And here we have jinkies.org. Which isn’t pretty, or even very functional yet. More to come in the future, as I have time to work on it between my actual job.
